Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that involves mechanical peeling of the skin using a specialized instrument to “sand” the skin’s outer layers. This abrasive action of “sanding” works to improve skin as a new layer of skin replaces the treated skin resulting in a smoother appearance. Traditionally, microdermabrasion has involved a technique of spraying tiny crystals on the skin. While this technique is available at MD Laser Medicine & Surgery, more modern technology involves the use of diamond tipped pieces, which is our specialty. In addition to diamond tipped pieces, Dr. Banda also performs microdermabrasion using the Parisian Peel. Schedule your consultation with Dr. Banda today to find out if microdermabrasion is right for you.
SKIN CONDITIONS TREATABLE WITH MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion can improve superficial skin problems and works well on all skin types and results in subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. However, it is not effective for deeper problems like scar, stretch marks, keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue at the site of a healed skin injury) or deep acne scars. Another benefit: Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure. Therefore, there are none of the risks associated with even minor surgery like dermabrasion, where anesthetics are used and skin bleeds.
NO DOWNTIME OR RECOVERY
There is no downtime with microdermabrasion. Treated skin fully recovers within one day following treatment. Generally, most patients resume their normal activities immediately. You should avoid unnecessary direct and indirect sunlight for the first few days and use sunscreen on a regular basis when outdoors.
